Dave Frenson of Banquets and Black Numbers

Banquets
This year's best 7" comes from Jersey City, NJ's Banquets. Believe me when I say that each time you spin this little gem will make you love it a little more. Banquets play poppy punk that guitarist Dave Frenson semi-jokingly tell people sound like Eddie Money singing for Hot Rod Circuit.

Besides swingin' the guitar with Banquets and being an overall awesome dude, Dave also runs the label Black Numbers responsible for some real nice records by PJ Bond, The Arteries, Over Stars & Gutters, Higher Giant etc.

I decided to have a little talk with Dave about his new band, the band's new records and running a label. Here's what he said...

Vrgns leaks a new song "No Longer Entertainment"

Wolvhammer "Blackmarketeers of World War III"
Orlando’s VRGNS has leaked a new song from their upcoming sophomore album entitled Manimals for Kiss of Death Records, to be released on LP/CD August 31st.
The new song is called "No Longer Entertainment" and you can give it a listen at the band's MySpace profile. VRGNS recently changed their name from their old moniker VIRGINS as well as added a member. Alex Goldfarb has taken over bass duties. He formerly played with band-mate Sam Johnson in New Mexican Disaster Squad and currently plays with him in No Friends. Goldfarb is also a member of Gatorface. Manimals was recorded by Chris Owes of LORDS in Louisville, KY. Owens also recorded the band’s debut Miscarriage released in October of 2008.

Late last year the band shared a split cassette with Over Stars & Gutters. You can pick up the tape here.

Wolvhammer "Blackmarketeers of World War III"

Wolvhammer "Blackmarketeers of World War III"I accidently stumbled upon a stream of Wolvhammer's debut "Blackmarketeers of World War III" today as I was clicking my way around the interweb. To be completely honest I probably would'nt have paid much attention to this if it wasn't for the super good looking artwork. I usually don't care much for black metal oriented bands, but curious about the art I tried to find some more info and found a full stream of the album at brooklynvegan.com. Not expecting very much I hit play and got blown off the couch immidiately.

An amazing debut album, "Black Marketeers of World War III" is a blend of raw black metal, crusy hardcore punk and doom complete with tons of darkness and haunting vocals.

MTNZN on hiatus from August 17th...

Central AmericaIt's finally time for a break again. I'm heading out for Central America on august 17th with my girlfriend to travel around and to do some volounteer work. It's gonna be awesome and I'm really excited about visiting some new places. It's so sweet to finally get overseas again! This time we're starting out in Guatemala and then we're going south through all the Central American countries down to Cartagena, Colombia. We have a flight back to Sweden booked on december 20th, just in time for the holidays.

I've been super busy with all kinds of things this summer and the updates here on MTNZN have been few (if any). As you can see, I've spent some time with my laptop this weekend re-vamping the site. I hope you like the new look! I wasn't gonna launch this new version until after I get back home, but what the hell. After christmas I'm gonna start posting stuff on here way more often. With the new set-up of the site it will be a lot easier and I have a really good feeling about the future of MTNZN.

Thanks again to everyone who's been reading and submitting their stuff. It really means a lot. Visitor-numbers are getting higher every month and it sucks that I haven't kept this thing updated. But, I'm back after christmas and we're gonna get this boat floating again. I hope the rest of 2010 treats you all well! Stay safe, stay free and thank's for reading what we write!
