What do you get if you put Tony Foresta of Municipal Waste in a room with three dudes from the old New Mexican Disaster camp? You'll get No Friends! Recorded in just a few days and after just a handful rehersals, these twelve tracks combined makes the best hardcore record I've heard since the release of New Mexican Disaster Squad's 2006 album "Don't Believe" (No Idea/Jade Tree). I guess this is the way to do it. Cut the bullshit, get plugged in, play your heart out for a minute and a half, stop, and then do it again. Simple as that. NMDS, Virgins, Gatorface and now No Friends, it seems to me like everything that Sam, Richard and Alex get their hands on turns to punk rock gold. I'm glad that's the case.
Starting out with "Set In Your Ways" the band's 19-minute debut record sets off at full-speed ahead and it just won't slow down. Influenced by furious eighties hardcore a la Black Flag and the more melodic sounds of Decendents and Dag Nasty, No Friends sure would make their idols proud. Tracks like "Broken Windows" and "We've Got No Friends" shows hardcore at it's very finest but with a modern touch. The eighties may be long gone, but No Friends show that bands like this are more important than ever. This is brilliant.
"No Friends! / I should probably change my attitude / I have No Friends and no clue what to do / No Friends! / It doesn't bother me a bit / If that's the case, well then so be it"
