I was checking out the No Idea website the other day and was wondering why they hadn't sent me the new OWTH for review. Later on when I opened up my growing box of records (that are still to be reviewed...) I found a package from No Idea I hadn't even opened. How the hell did I miss that? Anyway, there it was. Thanks No Idea and sorry for bing so absent-minded.
Naturally "From The Bottom" instantly kicked my stereo's ass, just like the band's records usually do. Off With Their Heads' sound is what I define as good punk rock. It's lo-fi and simple without sounding stupid. Also, it's delivered with a lot charm despite the fact that the lyrics are often self-destructive and most of the time just straight-up depressing: ...There's a little piece of me in everyone/ Whether or not you admit it we're all the same/ I'm every morning you wake up alone/ I'm every time you're drunk and walking home/ I'm all the tears you cry 'til you can't see/ I'm everything you swore you'd never be/ And the list goes on and on and on and on and on...
Those lines right there might not sound very uplifting but delivered as a punk rock anthem in true OWTH spirit it's pretty great.
I love "From The Bottom" and can't get enough of it. I'm not sure it's all that healthy though, it's like whiskey in a way.
By the way, there's a OWTH video in on the video page. Check it!
