WATCH YOUR STEP "Taking You Down With Me" CD Release: 2008 by: Pee Records Review: February 13th, 2009 |
|
This band resides in Firenze, Italy where they spend their days playing fast forward hardcore with an old-school touch to it. Watch Your Step is not one of those tough-guy crap bands, frequently referred to as hardcore, even though the title of their new record might sound a little bit like a tough-guy statement. I'm pretty new to italian bands but it seems like they know how to play good hardcore down there.
"Taking You Down With Me" is an ok record. The first half of it is really promising, but after a while it does get a bit dull and towards the end I find myself pretty bored. The last two songs have sort of a metal touch to it with some horrible guitar-solos. Well-played I guess, but it doesn't fit the record. I think this album would have been a better record if they had made it a 6 song EP. Tracks like "Face It" and "Empty Eyes" are really my type of hardcore and I would have loved this record if the band had stuck to that kind of songs. However, the band has a lot of potential and is worth checking up on if you're a hardcore kid. Also, I really like the artwork. These guys are great at the old-school part of hardcore and the first half of the album kicks ass, but the end of the album ruins it in a way. / Christer Davidsson, MUTINYZINE.COM |
