To me, some of the worst musical news in 2008 was the split-up of my favorite hardcore band of all times - New Mexican Disaster Squad. I loved that band from the very first time I heard them. Luckily the boys split on good terms and have now, together with the guys from Polluted Youth, divided in to two new constellations which were both instant favorites to me - Gatorface and Virgins.

This four-way split 7", released by Kiss Of Death, contains the very last song recorded by NMDS and it's just as killer as you would expect it be. Entitled "Yesterday's Mistakes" it serves as a worthy good-bye from one of the most energetic bands I've heard. Following it up on the a-side is Polluted Youth's "Carcinogents". This band is relatively new to me but I like it a lot. It's a gritty, mid-tempo punk tune with bite.

The other side of this 7" works as a great introduction to the new bands. Gatorface opens with "Risky Business" which you're gonna like for sure. This band is a bit poppier than the others but with no less quality or energy. Richard Minino a.k.a. Horsebites plays the drums and he also made the cover-art for this 7-inch. Finishing it all up are Virgins which features Sam Johnson from NMDS on vocals. Virgins are quite similar to NMDS but they do sound a little more dirty and old-school. "Our Words" is a great song and a good way to end one of the best 7" of 2008.
