I feel a little sad that my first Ergs! review ever is probably also my last. I've been listening to the band for a while but not nearly as much as I should have. After hearing this collection of songs from 7-inches and compilations I've really come to understand how great the Ergs! are. Well, I guess I should say how great they were since they decided to call it quits last year. Too bad.
The Ergs!, for those of you who never heard the band, played punk rock in the vein of The Descendents or Screeching Weasel.
They also did it damn well. But there's more to the Ergs! than punk rock. These guys have incorporated a lot of different influences in their music through the years. The three country tunes from the "Cotton Picking" 7" is an example of the band's songwriting diversity.
My favorite songs off of this collection are probably "Introducing Morrissey" and "Hey Jealousy" both taken from the band's split with Lemuria. These tunes shows The Ergs! in their finest hour. Pop punk at its very best.
Give this collection a listen if you get chance, I know you'll like it! Yet another band from New Jersey to add to my favorites. A little late though...
