Sakes Alive!!Sakes Alive!! "Act 1"
Colored 7" Vinyl
Release: 2008 by: Barrett Records
Review: March 16th, 2009

So, I finally got my copies of the debut 7-inch from Sakes Alive!! I've been waiting to get my hands on this one for quite a while now and I'm stoked that it's finally here. I've heard all these tunes online but it's a certain feeling when you listen to a "real" record so I've been holding off on a review up until now.
I've said nice things about this band in the past so everyone knows I'm really into what they're doing. "Act 1" picks up right where the brilliant demo "Presents" left off and in a good way. I was thinking about it earlier today and I can't really find any other band to compare SA!! with. I really think that Chris and the other guys are onto something rather original here. "Act 1" is literally packed with music and there's not a dull moment on these seven inches. Every song is extremely well crafted and thought through and I believe that these guys are working their asses off to create good music. Chris' raw vocals fits the melodic yet slamming sound perfectly and creates an almost haunting vibe in the songs. Opening song "I'm Religious" is the band's best work to date and I can only hope that the band continues to write tracks like this one.
If I were to describe "Act 1" in three words I guess genuine, excellent and even epic would be fitting. The 7-inch gets an additional thumb up for the beautiful artwork by Stan Doll. Now hurry up with "Act 2" dammit!
