ShorebirdsShorebirds "It's Gonna Get Ugly "
LP/CD
Release: 2009 by: Yo-Yo Records
Review: March 28th, 2009

Shorebirds from Olympia, WA play raw basic pop-punk in the vein of Jawbreaker or Latterman (which might not be that strange since there's members of both in this band) and I think they do a great job. The songs on this album are straight and to the point which is just the way I like it. Even though it's basic and very forward the songs on It's Gonna Get Ugly doesn't lack detail. There's a presence in the songs that keeps my feet tapping and my attention set. "Olympia Autumn Morning" and closing track "Byeways" are my favorites but I pretty much like all of 'em. Shorebirds sure ripped! Yeah, ripped as in past tense. From what I've heard the band split up last year which is sad as hell. There's always a need for this kind of music in a world where it's all about getting on MTV and making ridiculos amounts of money off of playing "punk".
