Ergs!Chris Wollard "... and the Ship Thieves "
LP/CD
Release: February 27, 2009 by: No Idea Records
Review: March 13th, 2009

Being a huge fan of Wollard's work in both Hot Water Music and The Draft (which I liked even more) the release of this album was exciting as hell. Wollard's solo debut breathes more rock'n'roll than the stuff he's been involved in before and I must say that it's a well-suited sound to his voice. I would say that simplicity is the keyword for "...and the Ship Thieves" with it's basic and easy-going structure. And by that I don't mean that this boring in any way at all. In fact it's the exact opposite of boring. I can't get enough of this damn record!
I first heard the opening track "No Exception" online a few days before this one was officially released and I got completely hooked on it at once. I've been listening to it pretty much every day since then and it's still a killer tune even though there's nothing really special about it. I guess that sounds weird and I can't really put my finger on it, but there's a feeling of warmth and presence on this record. I think that's the main thing that makes me like it so much. Anyway, you should check this album out 'cause Wollard sure nailed it this time.
