DIRTY MONEY / GDP | "SPLIT"
7" Vinyl | Division East Records
Reviewed: June 11th, 2008

I think this 7" is the very first split I've heard with punk on one side and hip hop on the other.
So, is it akward? Nope, it actually works very well.
The punk is provided by Florida's up & coming Dirty Money, a band I got a good feeling about. These guys play basic punk rock with one foot in the swamps of Florida, which brings that sincere feeling to the music. But I also hear some San Fransisco punk rock sounding parts, at least in the first song "You Are Not Alone". Anyway, I like both tunes a lot. Great band with a lot of potential!
GDP, from New Jersey, might not play punk rock but his part of the split feels really natural. Punk rock and hip hop got a lot in common, at least when it comes to the independent bands & rappers. I didn't really have any expectations on this side of the record, but damn this guy is good! I'm not a huge hip hop fan but stuff like this really gets me wondering why I don't listen to this type of music more often. I'm sure there's a ton of really awesome & obscure hip hop out there to find. To me, GDP is a good start.

Dirty Money & GDP are on tour together throughout June! Look out!
